Once identified, these opportunities are evaluated by the IT team to determine if a technology initiative can be engineered that will function as a strategic lever, significantly assisting with, or actually facilitating, the achievement of those goals. · Proper corporate governance of the IT function, through a formal structure that incorporates the Board of Directors, the “IT Governance Committee”, the Internal Audit Committee, and the engagement of private audit firms that are contracted to examine the IT function and report those findings to the Board of Directors. · Continual re-examination of existing infrastructure and other technology resources; resulting in the redeployment of resources when appropriate, replacement of resources as warranted, and the planning for future obsolescence. Beyond life cycle management, this function is perpetually in motion, in an attempt to achieve optimum IT investment value. · By continually seeking new IT initiatives that enhance the bank’s market position, create revenue, or otherwise help the bank achieve its strategic goals. · Applying measurable metrics to tangible and intangible benefits of all proposed projects. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is analyzed using those metrics. If the projected IRR does not at least double the established target rate, the project is usually passed over for another initiative that offers more potential. This approach promotes a culture in which IT facilitates lucrative investments, rather than just expenditure. Additionally, the performances of completed projects are measured using the same metrics. Additionally responsible for the development and enforcement of Information Technology related policy which mitigates the bank’s exposure to the following risks: Compliance/Legal, credit, interest rate, liquidity, reputation, strategic, and transaction risk.
